49ers Crush Bears 38–13: Purdy Excels, Williams Falters

The San Francisco 49ers snapped a two-game losing streak in emphatic fashion on Sunday, steamrolling the Chicago Bears 38–13 at Levi’s Stadium.

The Bears, now mired in a seven-game skid, struggled in their first game since firing Matt Eberflus. Quarterback Caleb Williams didn’t hold back in assessing his team’s lackluster performance.

“We got our ass kicked today. There’s no way around it,” Williams said postgame. “At one point, they had 240-something yards, and we had four total yards. Regardless of how we feel, we got it handed to us.”

First-Half Domination by the 49ers

The 49ers dominated on both sides of the ball on Sunday. By halftime, San Francisco had built a commanding 24–0 lead, fueled the play of Brock Purdy and a defense that completely stifled Chicago.

The defense, looking reenergized with the return of Safety Talanoa Hufanga, finished with a season high seven sacks.

Quarterback Brock Purdy looked comfortable as he orchestrated another masterpiece, finishing with 325 passing yards and two touchdowns.

49ers leading receiver George Kittle was instrumental in the 49ers success on offense. He finished with over 150 yards receiving for the first time this season. Kittle also had two crucial catches that brought the 49ers inside the ten yard line.

Isaac Guerendo proved he can be a starting running back for the 49ers. The rookie had 78 yards rushing, 50 yards receiving (128 yards total) and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver JaJuan Jennings had over 80 yards recieving for the fifth time this season, finishing with 7 receptions, 90 yards, and two touchdowns.

Caleb Williams’ Struggles

Caleb Williams and the Bears struggled mightily against the 49ers defense which had given up over 30 points in the previous two games.

During the first half of the game, the Bears could only muster 4 total yards, finishing with just 162 total yards on offense for the game.

Bears QB Caleb Williams finished the game completing 17 of 23 passes with 134 passing yards and two touchdowns.

DeAndre Swift was a nonfactor in the contest. He finished with just 38 yards rushing 14 carries.

The defeat drops Chicago to 4–9, solidifying their position at the bottom of the NFC North standings.

A Much-Needed Bounce Back for San Francisco

The victory was a much-needed one for the 49ers, who remain one game under five hundred and face an uphill battle to make the playoffs.

The offense did it’s part to keep San Francisco in the game. Brock Purdy was nearly perfect, delivering a clean, turnover-free performance.

The 49ers defense was dominant in it’s ability to pressure Caleb Williams and finished with a season high seven sacks.

Looking Ahead

The Bears face a tough challenge as they look to rebound next week in a Monday Night Football showdown against the Minnesota Vikings.

Meanwhile, the 49ers (6-7) will host the LA Rams (7-6) on a short week as they continue their playoff push.
