Trent Williams Contract Update: Trent Williams, 49ers Agree To New Contract

Trent Williams and the SF 49ers have finally come to terms on a new contract. The restructured three-year deal is worth $82 million, with a $25 million signing bonus.

Trent Williams contract extension had become quite a concern for the 49ers over the past week, as the 49ers prepare to open the season against the New York Jets because the 49ers have no replacement for Trent Williams. The All-Pro offensive tackle is not just the 49ers best offensive tackle, he’s arguably the top offensive tackle in the league.

Williams signed a six-year, $138 million extension in 2021, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL at the time. However, the $22 million he’s owed for 2025 and the $32 million for 2026 were not guaranteed.

“It’s a volatile league,” Williams said, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “A guy my stature and my age, I thought security was important, and that was all.”

Despite being in his mid-thirties, Trent Williams has not experienced a drop in play quality and is considered by some to be the best player in football.

“It’s a tough business, and this was a very intricate contract—I wouldn’t call it a dispute— but a restructure. So, it took time to get to where both sides feel like like it’s a win-win,” said Williams. “We had discussions in minicamp and kinda knew that it could draw out a little bit, just because there was other people on the table—obviously, a lot of pressing needs. I didn’t think it would go this long, but it is what it is.”

49ers offensive line is ranked at the bottom of the league.
